A Bit About Me

As I get older, I continue to pursue all the things I wanted to do when I was young. I feel that can be a reflection of one’s self, thinking about those things that you did for fun, without fear of judgement or without holding specific expectations of a particular result.

My favorite days when I was young include searching piano tutorials on YouTube, drawing, taking pictures, then subsequently editing those pictures on Picnik. While piano will remain as a personal hobby, I’ve managed to fit these other areas into my career. That creative side, mixed with my love for data & human behavior, led me to a path I really enjoy, marketing.

Looking at most of my endeavors growing up, it really all makes sense. I took it seriously when my older brother told me about the yearbook at his high school, and how I should try to be on the staff one day. Fast forward to my junior year, I fell in love with the magic of Adobe Photoshop and InDesign, and became almost obsessed with the details -

Every picture must be three pica apart.
The colors must be a perfect match.
Those elements must completely align.

It became like a fun game double-checking my designs. Then my senior year, after becoming co-editor, I checked a whole staff’s work. I was two of dozens of eyes that made a fantastic 400+ page book. It was thrilling.

College at Auburn University was all the same as I became President of my sorority and led marketing and operations for a fundraising organization, Auburn for Water (then renamed Students for Clean Water). It’s no wonder I’m in Marketing Events now, since those organizations held many events that I had a hand in planning. There is such a rush in putting together all the little touches, thinking of the things that matter to people, and logistically, putting everyone’s vision together. The best part of all of it was working on incredible teams to make it all happen. I also couldn’t let the yearbook go just yet, and I joined The Glomerata. This time, I was a writer for the Campus Life section of the book. I had the honor of capturing the stories of some of the most iconic parts of Auburn University - Aubie the Tiger, the 75th Anniversary of the Creed, Samford Hall, and more.

Now, I’m in a career where I get to flex my creative muscle and try new things, all while my organized, operations-minded side is staying results (& data) driven. I don’t stay in one box, but rather volunteer and step outside in hopes to improve processes and strive for excellence. Remaining curious, I’m quick to teach myself something new, whether work-related or on my piano. I am still drawing, usually fun little ideas that pop in my head from songs, books, movies, or experiences.

The pursuit will never stop. All those things I did at 7 years old, I’ll keep wanting to learn more until I’m 77 years old. Until then, I know I can strive to be better than I was yesterday. The best is yet to come.
